The Commonwealth Government has an nmbitioffs scheme in hand for the development of the whole of Northern Australia- north of the 20th parallel. A Northern Territory Developmental Commission will be appointed, with full executive powers. It will furnish plans ior ten years ahead. The ultimate scheme, it is hoped, will be the means of providing for between ten and twenty million sheep. Senator Pearce, in outlining the scheme, said that at present there weie only four thousand white people living north of the twentieth parallel, and between ,a point east of Broome, in West Australia, and West of Norman - town, in the Gulf of Carpentaria. fn this vast territory there are- millions of acres of rich pastoral land, very little of which is occupied or is carrying stock. If effect is given to the Commonwealth proposals it will lead, t.o the creation of another State.
