THE STOCK MARKET.

BIG SALES. PURRS MAINTAINED. The good season experienced by farmers' has been, very favourable to pastures, and comsequenifcly most of them ha,ve plenty of feed for this time of the year, when oiten the paddocks are getting somewhat bare. These good conditions have been a distinct factor in the stock market. They have meant that farmers have been able to hold if they thought fit to do 6Q.

Another point is that stock all over the district have been, maintained and are .still in good condition. ' They vi II be better fitted to- face the rigours of winter, especially as the farmer without, extra- feed (root crops or lucerne) for his stock is comparatively rare. Wherever one goes, all over the countryside, each, farm has its area set apart for fodder to- supple-j meat the! grass. For some time most farmers have been feeding out to a greater or less extent. j

The mlarket is Little changed from last week-. Though there were a lot of cattle offering earlier in the week, this -has eased somewhat, probably owing to the number still at the works.
