DUNEDIN WOOL SALE
COMPETITION BRISK
(BY TEUSGRiPH PHICSn ASSOOiA'I lON . DUNEDIN, Apri] 3. Ihe fourth ancl finaj wool sale .of the season was held to-day, when 3405 bales were submitted. The attendance of buyers' was good and competition was brisk. A large proportion o f Ihe offering was comprised of passed in lots from the March sale, while the fresh wool that was offered was for the most part late shorn, heavy in condition and seedy. There was particularly nothing suitable for the requirements of local mills, ex. cept a few odd lots of pieces, and the bulk of the catalogue was taken on Bradford account, small portions going to the Continent. Local scourers peted keenly and that no doubt stimulated comoetition very considerably.
Fine wools, which suffered most in the March sale, met with good competition, and merinos may be quoted Id to lid above the March sale, while half-bred appreciated from par to Id per pound. Crossbred wools were mostly of low quality, but they met a fair sale and prices were from par to ;|d higher. Bellies, pieces and locks met with an excellent sale at prices showing an advance of ljd to 2d compared with the March'sale. The sale must be termed a satisfactory, one, but at times it was erratic, and whilst in some cases passed in lots from the last sale were sold at some advance, yet a quantity of the offering failed to reach the passed in bid of last sale. Following is the range of prices:— Merino, super 22£d to 25£d, average 20J-d to 22d; inferior 18d to 20d; fine half-bred, super 22£d to 25d, average 21d v to 22ijd, inferior to 20d; medium half-bred, super 2-lj-d to 23d; average UHd to 21d, inferior 16Jd to 19d; fine cross-bred, average l.Sjd to 20id, inferior 16cl to 18d; medium eross-breds, average 16id to 19d, inferior 14d to 16id; bellies and pieces, merino average pieces 16d to 18d, average bellies 14d to 16d,. half-bred average pieces 14d to 17d, average bellies T3id to 15£d, cross-bred bellies and pieces, average pieces 12d to 14Id average bellies lid to 13£d. locks half-bred 9d to lid, cross-bred 8d to lOck
