VICTORIANS BATTING STEADILY

Saturday’s postponement and prospect that the match ivas unlikely to reach a decisive stage robbed play in the second test to-day of a great deal of interest. The weather was fine but cold when Victoria, with two down for 88, resumed its first innings. Ellis (39) and Woodfull (19) faced Dickinson' and Cunningham. Two ‘came off the first ovdr, then Cunningham bowled a maiden. Both bowlers had men fielding close at “silly point” apd “silly mid-on.” Ellis brought the century up by gliding Cunningham to leg for three. New Zealand’s fielding; was keen, and scoring was slow. The first boundary was recorded when Woodfull snicked Dickinson past first slip. At 110 Mcßeath replaced Cunningham. He was hit for a single, and then Cunningham bowled from the other end. He got Ellis with a beauty. 111—3—50. Willis did not last long, being caught behind the stumps by Garrard off McBeath. 114—4 —1. Woodfull’s score is 31. extras 25.
Victoria at the luncheon adjournment had lost four wickets for 224—Woodfu 11 (not out! 88. Ransford (not out) 42, extras 36.
