A COURT FAVOURITE.

ATTEMPTS TO KIDNAP HER. AN INDIAN INTRIGUE. OFFICIALS ON TRIAL. BY CABLE—I-*BBSS ASSOCIATION- COPYRIGHT. DELHI, March 26. The preliminary hearing of the case of Mumtaz has commenced in Bombay. Nine officers of the police and of the State troops of Indora, also the ad-jutant-general, are charged with attempting to kidnap her and of murdering her lover, Bawla. Mumtaz gave evidence that she was 22 years of age, and was brought up as a singing girl. She went to Indora at the request of the Maharajah, and was his mistress for several years. She accompanied him to England after a daughter had been born and died. She and the Maharajah had lived at various places, where she had been constantly followed by his spies, who urged her to return. Mumtaz recapitulated the details of the attempts to kidnap her and to murder Bawla.—Reuter.
