TURKEY ANNOYED
FOREIGN EMBASSIES
TO REMAIN AT CONSTANTINOPLE
ANGORA IGNORED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT, (Received March 24., 8.50 a.m.) LONDON, March 23. The Times’ Constantinople correspondent says that the Great Powers’ decision that their ambassadors shall reside in Constantinople has annoyed the Turks, who declare that they must come permanently to Angora. A Note to this effect has been presented to the Allies. It points out that the permanent presence of ambassadors in the capital is in accordance with international law and custom. There is no reason or possibility of modifying the rule in the case of Turkey. _ The Powers are reminded that facilities have been offered for the construction of embassies at Angora, and the hint is also given that it will be impossible tosay how long the existing Turkish Foreign Office delegation will be maintained at Constantinople. ' The Note concludes -with the hope that the transfer of the embassies will occur as early as possible. —Times.
