CROWBOROUGH CASE.

THORNE ON TRIAL

EVIDENCE FOR THE DEFENCE

BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received March 16, 1 p.m. LONDON, March 15. Two skulls and two Indian clubs were prominent • exhibits in court at the resumption .of the Thorne trial. Three girl clerks testified to Miss Cameron’s nervousness and worrying over her work, and her talk of going James Woods, a mental specialist, testified that he deduced, from Miss Cameron’s medical history, that she was acutely neurasthenic, potentially of suicidal tendencies. Amiable, courteous, unselfish and a general favourite, was the description of Thorne given by a'male witness, who was an intimate acquaintance. Drs. Gibson and Bronte described a post mortem examination after the exhumation of ,Miss Cameron’s body, both deducing from the bruises on the neck that death was due to shock, probably the result of an attempt at. hanging.'. Both were of the opinion that a. murderous blow would have smashed the skull, whereas Miss Cameron’s skull, which was abnormally thin, was only bruised, consistent with the theory of a fall. Dr. Gibson described the shaving off of a minute portion of the skin on the neck, and the underlying tissue, for the purpose of a microscopic examination.* Both agreed -that Dr. Spilsbury was a most eminent pathologist, but Dr. Gibson described him as sometimes a tiifle dogmatic. , Dr. Bronte considered Spilsbury made a mistake in not examining the marks microscopically. The hearing was adjourned. —R e u ter.
