(From Our Own Correspondent.) AIANAIA FIRE BOARD. The quarterly meeting of the above board was held in tlie Ure brigade station on Friday last. There were present: Messrs A_ Franklin, C. Hunger, F. J. Chisnail, Greaves, Badly, u. White, W. Vincent, and Rev. O. Franklin. lief ore commencing business Mr.. Chisnail was elected to the vacancy caused by the resignation ot Air. Reaman. Mr. G. White gave notice of motion to move at next, meeting that the name of the board be changed to Manaia hire Council. it was resolved that the Town Boa id be written to any asked io make a by-law prohibiting motor-cars being parked over lire plugs, to provide ior complete identification posts, and to appoint a fire inspector. a letter of congratulation is to be forwarded to the ilawera hire Brigaoe on their great success at the New Zealand fire brigade competitions. Superintendent White was congratulated upon being elected president of the Taranaki hire Brigades’ Association. / Superintendent White brought under' the notice of the board some' comments re the fire brigade’s meetings. After discussion, it was moved by the chairman, seconded by Air. Greaves, and carried unanimously, that the citizens of Alnnaia had full confidence in the officers and men of the brigade, and mat the rumoured report should not have been made. GENERAL,

The grand social and dance .to be held in Alanaia Town Hall on Wednesday night promises to be a great success. A first-class floor, supper, and music will be supplied, and a good evening’s enjoyment is promised to ail. The social iis in aid of Alanaia town queen. . . '

Alanaia Municipal Brass Band, under conductor J. A. G. Cosgrove, in spite of the inclemency of the weather, turned out ' as promised and played a. very,appreciative programme on Saturday night. The band mustered 29 players. which included 12 beginners. There was a very large attendance of the public present, and many complimentary: remarks were passed on the band’s improvement. It is the intention of the band to give a second concert in the Domain on a. Sunday afternoon at an early date. Conductor Cosgrove is well satisfied with the work of the band, and he hopes in the near future to •ve a band that will lie a credit to Manaia.
