FRAUD BY PENSIONER. - IBY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION. HASTINGS, March 11. At the Magistarte’s Court this morning a widow, an epidemic pensioner, with two. children, was convicted of making a false declaration regarding her earnings. The magistrate said that a person obtaining pensions by false declarations-was as much a theif as if he took someone else’s money. The department did not ask for a penalty in the present case, blit if any offenders were convicted of obtaining pensions fraudulently they would stand a .. very good chance of being sent to gaol without the option of la fine. The accused lyas convicted and her pensions 1 certificate cancelled. v > "rt DAIRYMAN FINED £25. CHRISTCHURCH, March 11. In fining Ritchie Mugford, a dairyman, £lO on each of two charges of selling milk below the standard, the magistrate said that the dairy seemed to be in a disgraceful state. Evidence had been given that flies and moths had been found floating in the milk, and there was an open drain in bad condition nearby. NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, March. 12. Tt wall take days to notify all the members and competitors. Had tlhe ban been raised yesterday the meeting would have been held on the 25th of March.
