HOBBS CASE.
CONTINUATION OF EVIDENCE. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. LONDON, March 7. Before the Hobbs case was adjourned till March 9 the accused completed his evidence. He said he would not have associated himself with any of the banking transactions if he had an idea, there was conspiracy unless he wanted to commit suicide.
Asked how it came that part of the £25,000 paid to Mrs. Robinson found its way to the firm of solicitors of which Hobbs was the head, Hobbs said he expected Newton sent some notes in payment of costs incurred on his behalf. Hobbs admitted he had not sent Newton, a bill. He said he expected Newton suggested he would pay so much and Hobbs agreed. It was not the usual. practice for a solicitor to leave his client to pay what he liked as costs.
