ALLOCATION OF PERMITS. HAWFIIA GLEB INCT.rOKO. AYELLTNCTOX. Feb. 17. Cabinet at its meeting to-da.v considered the recommendation of the Minister fm” Internal -Affairs (Lion. R. F. Bollard) tor the allocation of the thirty-one new totalisator permits (twelve for racing clubs and nineteen tor trotting clubs) provided in the Gaming Amendment. Act. whose passage through the Li,on.se of Representatives last session, created a. stonewall which will probably be long remembered. All of the new permits go to country clubs. The allocation of the permits is as follows: Racing Clubs.—Hamilton 2; one each to the following: AVaipapakauri. Dargaville, Whangarei, Franklin. Matamata, Rotorua, Te Kuiti, Wai* marine, AVaianu (Ruatorea), Motueka.. Trotting.—AVellington was allotted three days, Invercargill two. and the following one each: Northland (Whangarei), Waikato, Cambridge. Thames, Te Aro ha, Taranaki. Hawke’s Bay, Hawera. South AVairarapa. Timaru, AVynidham, Oarnaru, Ashburton. Nelson. THE AY AXG A NUI MEETING. <By Maecenas.) A fair amount of rain fell at AYanganui during the last 24 hours, and the race track, which was hard, has received much l>enefit therefrom. The Victory’Welter at the Wanganui meeting has filled well, and bears an open appearance. The Egmont-trained Glengariff would be a “possibility” if well ridden. Although not numerically large, the acceptances received for the Wanganui Jockey Club’s meeting (which opens tomorrow) should result in some good racing. Deluge is going remarkably well just now, and will be well supported in the Flying Handicap at. Wanganui, in which event, the son of Absurd will be ridden by L. Pine. Tukia is galloping with all her old dash'on"the home track at Forded, and followers of Tilley’s stable are confident Tukia will be hard to beat tomorrow.
Taranaki-trained horses rarely visit, the Nelson meetings, but Trainer «l. Brown may go across with a team next month.
Tf runners in the opening event (Maiden) at the Wanganui meeting, the two-year-olds Nastori and Dal Eaton will give the older division moie trouble than they want. Wench was not ridden the best advantage in her race at New Plymouth, hut rnay have better luck in the Westmere Hurdles to-morrow, but Gold Peak is certain to be troublesome. The imported Antherti, who broke a
small hone in the leg when racing at the Egmont meeting, was entrained home to Trent ham to-day.
Sunny Yale was rqnning on well at the end of bis race at the Taranaki meeting, and was just behind the money-earners. Sunny Yale . will lie ridden bv .J. Barry at AYanganui tomorrow.
Judged on his races at the Taranaki meeting. Rational is many classes below the form he hn« shown in the past, and it does not look as if he will over again take a high place as a sprinter. If one could rely on Stork repeating bis Egmont and Taranaki Cup form in (he Wanganui Chip to-morrow, the son of Hallowmas would have many followers. A 1 tlie weights Alusketoon and Alurnahi should have lots of admirers.
There are quite a number of smart, youngsters engaged in the Juvenile Handicap at the Wanganui meeting tomorrow. and the event should he an interesting one. Black Cat. who showed great- pace in the spring in her only start, will he a runner, and may perform well. Rafa showed such great pace in his only appearance at the Taranaki meeting that it will he surprising should he not prove a difficult one to heat in the Petra Hack at AVangdnui. The Auckland-owned Surveyor, Pelham and Uralla have arrived at AYnnganui, while Trainer Jamieson, with Spooney, Ring the Bell. Gold Acre, Choucas, Dal Eaton and Drolatique, has also arrived. The horses named will infuse much interest to the meeting. A 1 FETING OF DISTRICT COM. AIITTEE. At a meeting of the Taranaki District Committee last night programmes for race meetings under the control of the Stratford Racing Club and the Uruti Beach Picnic Clul» wore approved. The Stratford programme is for a meeting, probably early in April, but is subject to the grant of a permit for an extra day by the Minister for Internal Affairs. The Uruti Beach Picnic Club's programme is- for the annual, meeting on the Waitoitoi bench on Alarch 21. Licenses were recommended as follow:—Trainers: (-. IC. Cleaver and H Rama; ior.keys. 'l'. R. Henly and AY. B. Hands (the latter subject to conditions). Consideration of two applications for trainers’ licenses was deferred.
A list of fines, etc., in connection with the recent Egmont and Taranaki meetings was approved.
