TARANAKL CENTRE. The executive of the Taranaki Swimming Centre met ni New Plymouth last night, when a good deal of business affecting South Taranaki was done. The secretary of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association (Mr. R. O’Neill), in the course of correspondence pointed out: that the latest affiliation put the Taranaki Centre ahead of Wanganui in the matter ot clubs affiliated, equal to Manawatu, and only one less than Wellington, Hawke’s Bay, and Auckland, which was a splendid performance for the first season. Since then the Eltham and Opunake clubs had been affiliated, and a letter was received from the New Zealand Council. In the event of Air. R. G. Fletcher (Ilawera) being unable to attend the annual meeting of the New Zealand Council as delegate, Air. R. G liowell was appointed to act. The Otago Centre asked support to their application for the New Zealand chamionships to be held there next year, which would be exhibition year. It was decided to give the delegates a free hand. During the discussion the chairman expressed the opinion that in two or three years Taranaki would be a claimant for the championships. Mr. Pope stated that he had intended to circularise all schools in connection with swimming certificates, and also to endeavour to hold a primary schools carnival during •Alarch, but, ol course, the infantile paralysis regulations might affect the position. The secretary stated that according to the rules the centre was expectfed to hold annual primary schools championships. — It was resolved to defer the matter till the next meeting. In connection with the “Learp to Swim Week” suggested by the Wellington Centre, it was stated that the Taranaki Centre had decided upon such a scheme, and the delegates were instructed to support the principle. It was stated that arrangements had been completed in connection with the visit of the Taranaki team to the championship meeting at Christchurch, and the team will leave on Friday. Air. Bertrand suggested that delegates at the conference should consider the question of colours, with a view to each province or centre having the same colours to identify" it jn all sport. Air. Spragg reported that the Haworn Club had been able to collect £3O towards the expenses of sending the team to Christchurch. It was also estimated that a similar amount would lie collected at New Plymouth.
