FIRE AT WANGANUI.
BLOCK OF SHOPS DESTROYED. (.BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION WANGANUI, Feb. 13. A destructive fire broke ou.t at 3 a.m. in the Post Office Restaurant, Ridgway Street. The brigade was quickly on the spot, but' the flames had a big hold before the alarm was given. The fire spread to Dustin’s bakehouse, and this, together with the bifiiardroom in the upstairs portion of the block and Ferguson’s sweet-shop were destroyed. The premises of H. Crysell, jeweller, and the offices of Bruce and Caird were destroyed, but a brick wall prevented the further spread of the. fire along the street frontage. The Nicholson Motor Company’s 30-seater bus and a- Hudson car, which were in a right-of-way, were destroyed. The insurances are: Dustins’ stock. £2150 in the Norwich Union; plant, £9OO in the same office and £3OO in the Phoenix, buildings £I2OO in the Norwich Union, £6OO in the State Office ; motor delivery van. £l5O in the Norwich Union. The adjoining block, including' Ferguson’s sweets shop, Chrysell’s jewellery shop and the billiard saloon, were insurred lor £9OO in the Standard Office. Stock and furniture in the restaurant were insured for £BOO. Insurances on the stock of the sweet shop and jeweller’s are not available.
