NEGLIGENT DRIVING
A MOTORIST CONVICTED
(|)Y TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, Feb. 6. Guilty of negligent driving, caused by inexperience in handling his motor car, was the verdict returned by the jui-y at the. Supreme Court to-day in the case of George Denton, a builder, of Auckland, who was charged with having unlawfully killed William Campbell, a tramway motorman, on November 29, thereby committing manslaughter. Mr Justice Reed intimated that he considered the verdict carried a ■recommemdation. Campbell died in the Auckland Hospital about a fortnight after being knocked down by the accused’s motor car while crossing the road to record his time on the tell-tale clock. Mr Northcroft sought hail for Denton when the prisoner appeared in the dock this morning.' He asked that till his Honor was in a position to pass sentence Denton should be released on a bond of, £IOO. The Crown Prosecutor agreed to this suggestion, and two bondsmen were immediately forthcoming. He was remanded for sentence till February 13.
