SHIPPING TROUBLES.
MANUKA DELAYED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. MELBOURNE, Feb. 4. The Manuka was due to sail for Bluff at 11 o’clock this morning, but was held up ovving to the absence of two firemen. The men returned on board at three o’clock in the afternoon, and preparations were made to sail, but as the gangway ropes were being loosened a fireman appeared on deck badly gashed about the head. Three other firemen took him to hospital, and the vessel was again short-handed. The other firemen said they would not sail without a full complement, and the ship was held up. It is rumoured that the Manuka will be used as a lever to force the company’s , hand in regard to the Moeraki dispute. , • The Manuka sailed later for Bluff! It appears that a number of firemen came on board intoxicated, and a fight ensued, in which one of them cut hie head. After he was taken to hospital his companions all. returned to the ship, which left at five o’clock. STATE SHIPS TO BE WORKED. ADELAIDE, Feb. 4. The Trades . and Labour Council lifted the embargo placed by them upon the Commonwealth Line’s chartered vessels. The steamer Mackarra secured a full crew, but the Koromibo is still held up. t
