(BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.J ■ WELLINGTON, Feb. 2. “Owing to the scattered cases of infantile paralysis in Runanga and in and around Christchurch,” stated Dr. McKibbin (assistant Director-General of Health), “the department has.extended the embargo on the congregation together of children under sixteen years to the Nelson and Marlborough provinces and to the whole of tlie Canterbury health district. This has been done largely owing to the desire of local authorities and the public, who have been wiring the department with regard to local shows, etc. . \ “The incidence of the epidemic, ’ 'lie added, “is keeping pretty steady and might be much worse. Tlie only cases of hardship under the embargo brought to our notice are of a round-about man in the Wellington district and a man running a model railway at New Brighton, and I don’t see what the department could do for them.” MORE WANGANUI CASES. AVANGANUL. Feb. 2. Five cases of infantile paralysis were reported to-day, three being from the city, one from Cast lee 1 iff and one from Bulls. Three cases are regarded as serious. \ CASES IN QUEENSLAND. A Brisbane report last week stated that since July 1 last there had been 113 cases of infantile paralysis. The Health Commissioner stated that the number of cases is growing less, and only one case, in North Queensland, had been reported since January 1.
