According to the newspapers, the Chamber’s vote of confidence in the Government, yesterday was only obtained after strong efforts by M. Herriot to avoid a split, in the Socialist ranks. The Premier is said to have told the Socialists that, if they abstained from voting- as they intended, he would become a prisoner of the Right parties, and would resign.—Reuter.
