UNDER BOROUGH BY-LAWS
A CASE IN COURT.
A warning to plumbers that they must comply in every detail with the Hawera borough by-laws governing their particular t" /,de was issued at ( the Magistarte’s Court yesterday, when the sanitary inspector (Mr. F. Cl.' Coleman) proceeded against C. ,Kneebone and Co., whom lie charged with ’ installing a cistern which was not deemed to be a valveless waste p reventer.
; Mr. 'pfouston, for the Borough Council, said that the defendant company had been requested by the tenant of a certain property to repair the cistern, ,but oil inspection it had been found that the outhouse in which the cistern was to he installed would have to be rebuilt in order to comply with the by-law. Consequently the repairs carried out were hot of the type- or material required. It was also stated that the defendant company had not got a permit to carry out the work. It was this practice which made it most difficult for the inspector to keep in touch with what work was going on. Mr. Matthews, for the defendant; company, pleaded guilty and said that the job had only been a temporary' one, as the consent of the owner of the property had not been obtained and the rebuilding of the outhouse, would be required 1 in prefer to coiflply, with the by-law. The breach was mere-, ,ly a technical one. " ' ,J ••
The Magistrate inflicted a fine of ,10s, with 7s court costs and 10s 6d solicitor’s fee.
