BOXING CONTROL.

NEW SYSTEM ADOPTED.

AMATEUR v. PROFESSIONAL

(BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 22. The Boxing Conference, having abolished the centre system of control, has set up new machinery under which, local associations are to account direct to the council, and a centre officer will be appointed to report directly to the council. The council’s percentage on professional contests has been increased to two., but there will be ho tax on .amateur contests.

The conference had a long discussion on giving more encouragement to amateur boxing. Professional boxing, however, found a lot of support, Mr. McVilly, the president, declaring*that the sport oould not do without it. He was opposed to separating apiateur and professional, saying that associations which put only amateur on would be as dead as Julius Caesar.

Other speakers strongly supported amateurs. 1

In the end it was decided that no orders should be given for trophies, as it was asserted they were merely cashed, and the association will have to give actual trophies.
