SCOTTISH SOCIETY

COMMITTEE MEETING. At a meeting of the executive committee of the Hawera Scottish Society, held in Mr D. G. Smart’s offices last evening (Chieftain W. G. Simpson presiding), it was decided, in view of the wish of the Minister of Health, to cancel the. society’s picnic to be held at Ngaere on Wednesday next. It was felt that, although this decision would cause considerable disappointment to many members, it would he unwise, under the circumstances which have arisen, to have attempted to go on with It. Arrangements were gone into regarding the Burns anniversary celebrations, and it was decided to have a Burns night on Monday, January 26, to which ladies will be admitted. Full details re place, tickets, etc., will be ndvertised in a day or two. The society have been extremely fortunate in that the Rev. James McCaw, of Lower Hutt, and a native of Burns’ country, has accented an invitation to deliver the oration.
