U.S. POLITICS
NEW ERA PREDICTED
J Y CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT WASHINGTON, Jan. 12.
Political observers here predict that the • resignation of Mr. C. E. H ughes (Secretary of State) marks the dawn of a new era in the political administration of the country, in which President Coo lid ge will personally lead the Government and navigate the State, being as far as possible uncontrolled by factions in Congress. The leading senators here were taken completely by surprise, by the announcement of the resignation and the appointment of Mr. Frank Kellogg to succeed Mr. Hughes, indicating, that they, contrary to all precedents, hail not been consulted by the President. If it is true that President Coolidge de.sirest to cut free from senatorial .entanglements, lie is now in a'position to do so, and observers look forward to four most interesting years, with the President largely following his own course in public, affairs, while at the same time leaving Congress to a great extent untroubled by his advice.
