DE GARIS CASE

BEFORE THE COURT. WILLING TO RETURN TO AUSTRALIA. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 14. Clement John De Garis was charged at the Police Court that on December 12. in Melbourne, he with intent to defraud, did obtain from Charles Francis Northcott, £3OO by means of valueless cheques. Mr Moody said he had gone into the matter with the accused, and was instructed to state that De Garis did not intend in any way to oppose his return to Australia. He had expressed his willingness to expedite this and to pay the expenses of taking him back to Melbourne. On the application of the police, he was remanded to January 22.
