ACCIDENT AT MANAIA

COUNTY EMPLOYEE IN HOSPITAL. (From Our Own Correspondent). An unfortunate accident occurred on the Main South Road near Manaia yesterday, as the result of which Mr M. Brown, an employee of the Waimate West County Council, is now in a private hospital at Manaia. It appears that Mr Brown was in charge of a gang of men who were spraying the road with bitumen. The boiler containing the material was close by, and the bitumen caught fire, with the result that Mr Brown was badly burned about the arms, face, and legs' It was stated this morning that he was progressing as satisfactorily as can be expected. The sympathy of the residents are extended to him, and they wish him a speedy recovery.
