A BLACK EYE
ENGLISH PLAYER'S STATEMENT. THE BROWNLIE INCIDENT. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIG HT LONDON, Jan. 7. In view of the conflicting statements attributed to him regarding the Brownlie incident, Wakefield (the English captain) states that after the match he said ho did not see the incident. .Therefore, lie had no statement .to make. Any other remarks attributed to him were untrue. Edwards, the English forward reported by the referee, interviewed, denied that lie was personally cautioned, but stated that both packs were spoken to generally. “I would like the public to know,” he said, “that Cyril Brownlie did not kick me while I. was on the ground, but three or four minutes before he was sent off Brownlie struck me in the face in a line-out, giving me a black eye. The referee saw that incident.” The All Blacks • 'trod a wreath on the late David Gallaher’s crave. They have resumed training in Paris.
