At the inquest on Joseph, horn in Germany and a chemist, who came to England to sell his processes for manufacturing synthetically cocaine, santonin and nicotine, a letter was read in which lie said: “I must die by my own invention. Isn’t it funny.'’ Evidence was given that he had *eceived an offer of £2500 when he demonstrated his ability to make nicotine, but encountered difficulties and had to borrow money. wrote to chemists with whom he had been negotiating. “I am sorry to inform you it is now too late to accept your offer. I have spent all my money, are self and children are threatened with being put into the street. I cannot pay my rent or buy food. Thsi is my last day.”
A verdict of suicide by poisoning while of unsound mind was returned.
