TEA ROOM CHARGES
LIKELY TO INCREASE. DUE TO NEW AWARD. “This new award means another £4 per week in wages to me, and in all probability we will have to put our prices up.” was the remark made today by the proprietor of* a Hawera restaurant. , The new award which he refers to operates from January 1, and provides for an increase for waitresses, kitchen hands, and pantrymaids from £L Gs 6d per week to £1 15s (not including overtime of time and a half on certain holidays), and similar increases for employees in other sections of the work. The proprietor interviewed also pointed out that prices for certain foodstuffs had increased, the chief articles affected being tea and eggs. Other towns had already raised their prices, and whereas morning and afternoon tea cost Is elsewhere, in. Hawera it was Del. No move, ho said, had vet» been made n<?i in the direction <if increasing the charge, hut to him'such a step appeared inevitable.
