(BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION BLENHEIM, Jan. 3
A shocking accident occurred this morning at Redwood Pass, about eight miles from Blenheim, resulting in the death of two people. A Christchurch party of seven, comprising Herbert Ctyril Dixon, a grocer of St. Albans, Christchurch, his wife Annie and their two children, Rita (aged 7) and- Arthur (aged 9), also Sydney Mawson, a. salesman, of Fendalton, his wife Eimily (aged 41), and his son Herbert, arrived at Blenheim last evening, presumably from Nelson, in a motof-car, and they left Blenheim this morning for Christchurch, Mr. Dixon driving. On attempting to negotiate a ‘ sharp . hairpin bend on the Redwood Pass, the car apparently swerved, going over the bank, a drop of 50 to .60 feet, into a small creek below. It was almost a straight drop. None saw the accident, but shortly after it .occurred Reginald Thomson, who was driving a car to Blenheim, was stopped by Mawson and made acquainted with what bad happened. Assistance was procured, and it was found that Mrs. Mawson was just breathing and died in a few minutes, while flic boy Arthur Dixon, appeared to have bis back broken and was quite dead. The other five occupants were all more or less injured and were unable to give any particulars. All wore admitted to the Wairau hospital. The extent of their injuries is not yet known.
