It is still blowing, accompanied by heavy rain, rendering the plight of dwellers in the Thames Valiev more desperate than ever. The river spread' over manv more miles of country, and vast lakes formed along the valley from Maidenbead to Kingston. Towns like Chertsev and Shepparton are surrounded by water. ■ All air services from Croydon have been suspended. The Channel steamer crossing is the roughest known. . Much shipping is held up, nearly 100 vessels sheltering off Deal.
