DEATHS IN AMERICA. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION-COPYRIGHT NEW YORK, Jan. 1. While the celebration of New Year throughout America was attended by fewer casualties among celebrants than in the previous year, the toll of deaths and injuries on the present occasion was nevertheless considerable. Two men were killed, and two men and two women were wounded by stray bullets from pistols used as noisemakers during a watch-night observance at Chicago. One man was shot by the Ku Klux Klan during the New Year celebration at Miles, Ohio. Thi’ee persons 'were shot in Detroit, while Boston reports that several were injured during the celebrations. Three were stabbed in New York, while two died of' poison liquor and forty-five are ill as the result of drinking deleterious intoxicants. '
