KAPONGA.
NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS. New Year’s Evo celebrations were observed with time-honoured enthusiasm in Kaponga on Wednesday. During the afternoon, visitors in unusually large numbers congregated in the town, and an appreciable increase could be noted during the evening. Mounted on a motor lorry, a jazz hand, composed of local enthusiasts led by a bearded drummer resembling the “rascal monk,” paraded the centre of the town. Their weird costumes were the subject of much comment in humorous veiii, while with the blaring concourse of noise from their instruments they succeeded in their commendable efforts to enliven the evening’s festivities: Considerable irumbers remained on the scene as the old year . drew to its close, and as the clock hands pointed to the hour of-midnight the time whistle from Messrs .T. and A. Guy’s ga -aeo opened ah enthusiastic fanfare which announced the advent of the year 19 t' _____
