THE PLUNKET SHIELD. CANTERBURY . DEFEAT AUCKLAND. (BY TEr.EGRA.TS —PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 30. The collapse of Auckland in the second innings, which was concluded in fine weather to-day, gave Canterbury a. very easv victory in the Plunket Shield match. . Gillespie and Elliot resumed Auckland’s batting, but the latter played •on to his wicket without adding’ to the score. Smith followed and was clean bowled when lashing at a ball from Cunningham. Dacre came next .and reached double figures .in three strokes, but four balls later Rtead beat him with; a ball that- turned quickly from the leg and took the off stump. ,- Wickets thereafter fell at regular intervals, Cunningham and Read doing the execution.
