Blunt and Oliver resumed hatting for Canterbury. With his fourth hall Allcott scattered- Blunt's wicket before the latter had added to his Saturday score of 24- Oliver placed the first ball from Smith into Allcott’s hands&vithout increasing his score. Hayes followed Blunt, and was joined by Patrick, the former being clean howled by Allcott after making 11. The century appeared for two hours and fifteen minutes’ play. Samlham followed Hayes, hut stayed only long enough to make four, being .bowled by Allcott. Boon followed Sandham. There was a cessation of- play for 10 minutes owing to rain. At-' the luncheon adjournment the score was 139 for six wickets (Patrick not out 38, Boon not out 9). Continuing . after lunch, Canterbury ran up- 289, Patrick playing a splendid innings for 129, Boon making 25 and Read 37. Smith took five wickets for ,105 and Allcott three for 74. - In the second innings Auckland have lost two wipkets for 21. THE HAWKE. CUP. NELSON AND HAWKE’S BAY. • A NELSON, Dec.’ 29. When- stumps were drawn in ..the Hawke .Cup match between Nelson and Hawke’s Bay an interesting stage had been reached, Nelson having three wickets in hand and wanting 24 to win. 111 the second innings Nelson had lost three wickets for 40 when Neale and Haycock added 65, and Langbein and Kemnitz also made a good partnership. The chief scores were: Neale 45, Haycock 24, Langbein. 24, Kemnitz 35, J. Newman not out 13. Extras were responsible fop 44 of the total of 199 for seven wickets. As in Hawke’s Bay’s first innings, Bernau was responsible for the majority. of the runs in the second innings. The game finishes to-morrow.
