CHRISTMAS SEASON.
———♦- BUSINESS IN TOWN ANl> DISTRICT _ - / EXCELLENT REPORTS. On all hands come from the business people' very satisfactory reports of trade done, and the amount of cash taken during the Christmas season. Despite the tendency in seme quarters to say that conditions have hot been too good during the year, business firms generally, and almost without exception, stafe that the volume of trade has been exceptionally good, and that there has been, too, a satisfactory position in regard to cash available by the people of town and district. Every firm who. have been questioned on the matter .agree that their experience has been most gratifying, and that large increases have been recorded. In many cases the figures show a record, and • this applies especially to the Christmas week, showing that people were generally in a nosition to spend more freely and thus give the benefit to the trad- ’ mg community. POSTAL BUSINESS. . The postmaster reports that the operations for the week constitute a record in postal, savings bank and money order business. The parcel delivery business excelled anything previously, but from the new system of sending out to consignees there has been a great relief to the staff, and an obviation of the tendency for parcels to accumulate owing to the failure of the oublic to lift their parcels. The system has been a benefit to. the staff and to the public. As an instance of this it may be stated that on Christmas Eve every parcel received up to the mid-day-mans had been delivered.
