(From Our Own Correspondent.) Miss O. Mitchell, chairwoman of the Waimate .Plains Ladies’ Patriotio Committee, Manaia, has received the tolknvmg letter from Dr. H. E. Jeffreys, medical superintendent at Ponrua: “Dear Madam.—l have to acknowledge receipt of £4l 12s oolleeted by the Waimate Plains Ladies" 1 atnotic Committee, Manaia, for the soldier patients in this hospital. We have over 50 returned soldiers her© and this most generous gift will be greatly appreciated by them. There is a big circus oii at present in town and 1 propose using some of the money to send in as many of the men that are fit to go. Please convey to the ladies my grateful thanks tor their self-denying effort It is most gratifying that after all these yoars; there are still people who remember our unfortunate soldier patients, and that such a, large sum should be collected from such a small district is highly.
