MEXICO WARNED.
MURDER OF MRS EVANS. ACTION TO BE TAKEN. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—OOPYBIGUT LONDON, Dec. 27. There are indications that the Foreign, Office early in the New Year will eend a stringent communication to Mexico on the subject of the murder of Mrs Evans. Mr Austen Chamberlain (Minister for Foreign Affairs) enquired exhaustively into Anglo-Mexican affairs, particularly the Evans incident. Financial and commercial interests have been pressing to secure Mexican recognition, and Urged the_ Government to open the way to an amicable settlement of all differences. Mr Chamberlain, however, made it clear that the Government intends to press its demands for suitable amends. There are many Conservatives who believe the Government must take a firm 6tand in connection with the Evans affair in order to secure proper respect for the rights of British citizens in Mexico. [lt will lie remembered that, following the departure of the British Charge d’Affaires from Mexico at the request of the Mexican Government, Mrs Evans, the widow of a Britisher and a ranch owner, was - foully murdered. The tragedy sent a thrill of horror through the British people.]
