MEETS WITH NO RESPONSE

GISBORNE, Dec. 27. Three calls for labour for loading the meat steamer Cumberland were made this morning without response. It is understood that . th\ refusal of the watersidei’s to accept the engagement is intended as a protest against the terms of the new aw r ard, which provides for hourly payments instead of contract.
