ENDS IN MURDER CHARGE
YOUNG MAN REMANDED
(EY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION. /DUNEDIN, Dec. 27. At the Police Court this morning, Philip Gordon Sutherland (21) was chargedywith the murder cf John James Rvan, ‘53. the charge arising from a street affray on Tuesday night, as the alleged result of which Ryan lied in hospital. ■When-.-a remand was asked loi Mr White, counsel for accused, asked for bail, characterising the affair is a street affray with an"unfortunate m?d ing, and a murder charge in the eir cumstances was simply a judicial farce.
The Chief Detective, however, stated that the allegation w T as that deceased aceidentally bumped into aud apologised. Accused, _ • nevertheless,knocked 'him down, kicking him. Moreover, tlje elder brother of -accused made a statement to the police tak'r.g the blame on himself, this being no doubt a ruse' to enable accused to- get away.. Bail was refused.
