TRAGEDIES IN. MELBOURNE. ALMOST A RECORD. RAIN SPOILS HOLIDAYS. BY CABLE—PEEHR ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT, Received Dec: 27, 11.55 a.m. MELBOURNE, Dec. 27. For the third successive year Boxing Day fixtures had to be postponed owiiig to rain. The races at Caulfield were proceeded with. A small crowd watched the. events from' under umbrellas. Up to lunch time 179 points of rain had fallen.
A grievous list of serious accidents, the number whereof is almost a record, maned the Christmas holidays in Melbourne. Altogether four persons were killed and many others more: or, less seriously injured. A large proportion of the accidents were cpnnected with motor, vehicles, the most serious being at Malvern, where two men were killed. .
