DEVELOPMENTS NEAR NELSON. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION- - ; ’ NELSON) Dec. 23. Important ■ developments in connection with oil deposits in the Murchison district are likely to take place shortly. The fields were thoroughly tested some 'months ago by Mr J. A. Spencer, the expert formerly with the -AngloPersian Oil Company, who made an'exhaustive survey of the Murchison district,and it is understood liis report on the possibilities of oil being found in .payable quantities was of the most favourable nature. . . ;
. At a sitting of tin? warden’s court at Murehison yesterday, on the application of Mr Kemnitz, prospecting warrants were recommended to D. A. Oxnam (one) and J. Bassett (two) over an. area of 20,000 acres in the Tutaki and M'atiri districts. The warrants are for prospecting for oil, petroleum and natural; gases.. It is understood an Auckland syndicate, lias been formed to thoroughly try out the field.
