TE ROTI SCHOOL.
, (From Our Own Correspondent). BREAKING - UP CEREMONY; C On Friday afternoon the ,Te Roti School held . its annual *‘break-up” party. In spite of the wintry blasts and driving rain; quite, a nuinber/of parents and the School Committee came. to. the school, where a nice little programme' of songs, recitations and dances pivas presented by , the . school children. Every child received a handsome prize, funds for the same being generously donated by the . parents. \Two special prizes for. sewing preseiited by Mrs T. Coopej- were won.by Verna Grierson and Eileen Hurley respectively. Other special prizes were:—Good conduct and general work, Fred Cockerton and Ivy Parish; English, Verna Grierson ; Ist spor ts, Leonard Grierson; Ist marks. 'Clarence Feron, piare Jordan and Gordon Hooper; helpfulness and-intelligence, Pearl Dornauf. The following won good attendance certificates: William Coleman, Gordon Todd, Mavis Sharp, Verna Grierson, Gwen Harcourt and Joyce Jordan. Tne prize mohey' gained at the recent Hawera Show was handed over to : the winners. Altogether, for various essay, mapping, writing and root crop competitions, over £5 has been Avon bv .Te Roti scholars this year. Mr Hooper (chairman of the School Committee) handed the, prizes. to the children, and in a neat little speech highly complimented Miss Edwards (head teacher), and Miss Corry (assistant) on the work shown. He gave the children a little good advice, and remarked on the excellent tone of the school. Hearty cheers for teachers, paren fcs and comm ittee were given by the children. The display of Highland dancing given. bv the children was much enioyed by the audience. These dances form part of the physical culture course of the school, while an excellent school library, games, etc., are provided bv the scholars’ own efforts. During the year a successful innovation has been the introduction of two lady members on the School Committee. Mesdames Grierson and McAsey: 'After the prize-giving a bountiful afternoon tea was served in the hall, where Mr Hurley handed out hags of ’ollies to the children, and a few dances brought the happy gathering to n close. : * ’
