IMPROVED CONDITIONS.
AIR OF PROSPERITY NOTED
(by TELEGRAPH—PRESS - AUCKLAND, Dec! 20. v .“It is many years since there /has been such an air of prosperity in the country as there is this Christmas,”, was . the expression of members of the Relief Committee of the /Hospital Board, after holding their last meeting for the year. This was reflected in cases which had been revised, and which were reported/bn 'by officers of the '/ board:' Many/letters Vwefe : received stating that owing to the improved conditions of things help would not be needed any longer. “This was repeated so often that it acted like an inspiration to . those whose work is of a most depressing nature,” said the chairman, ‘‘and it, was a pleasing opening for the festive season. The list of cases dealt with,, although it took a good few/hours to go through, was one of the shortest this year. If deserters find /those who are in gaol were cut, out from our lists at this year end, the review of' what we have had to do lately would have been one of the most promising kind. Those who are prosperous we're never more willing to, help those less fortunate than themselves.”
