NOTES AND COMMENTS,
. (By Telegraph.—Snecial to Star.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 22. The boat that arrived’from- Auckland this morning brought six horses engaged at the local meeting. Among them were: Silent Knight (in charge of McSweeney) and Glericairn (R. McMilien). The other four are trained by S. Brereton and are engaged in the minor events. E. 'Warner lias been retained to ride Silent Knight in the jumping events. He will arrive on Wednesday.
Rangi Thompson ivill also come on that day to ride Silent Knight bn the flat.
There was nothing of note doing on the course this morning, all the horses being restricted to easy tasks:' Lady Comet shaped well in a schooling essay- with. Mountain Gold. R. Martin will ride Irapuka in the Christmas Handicap. Crossfire, which will compete at Manawatu and Martori meetings, leaves on Wednesday's train. During these engagements she will be ridden.by A. Sliearsby.
S. Gibbons, the well-known owner, will arrive in New Plymouth on Wednesday with J. Gaisford, of Rangitikei.
