L* Matthews, widow of the late U mler-Secretary of Justice and Con-troller-General of Prisons* 1 it', is an address of sympathy sighed by 54 inmates* of Waikato prison', and. was sent through the chief warder.; The signatories offer their sincere and heartfelt sympathy, to Mrs. Matthews in the death of her husband, to whom they refer as “our revered - chief.” “We have indeed lost a true friend in every sense of the word.' 5 ‘ The address proceeded : ‘‘He had our ; best interests at heart, and - he did, and was doing, his best .to help, his weaker fellow men. We hope, indeed -ire know, that his life work will not be lost.”
