BUSINESS IN HAWERA.
DURING FESTIVE SEASON
RETAILERS CONFIDENT. ' Business was exceedingly brisli in Hawera on Saturday.' Crowds thronged the streets at all hours, but although the volume of trade was not as large as on the Saturday prior to last Christmas, it was considered satisfactory, as this year Saturday was the fourth day before Christmas and last year it was the second. Accordingly, Saturday this year corresponds with Thursday of last year, and while tile balance is considerably in favour of the first-mentioned' day it would be invidious to ’make comparisons, in view of the longer hours during which the business premises are open on a Saturday. Prospects for the remaining few days, however, are exceedingly bright. The retailers are making special efforts to draw visitors to the town, and with special decorating, lighting, music, and a Father Christmas for the children, Hawera will be the most attractive centre in Taranaki during the festive season. New Year’s Eve has also not been forgotten, and the arrangements will extend over that period.
