AN “IDEAL” LIFE
£IOO A YEAR AND FOUND
A FEW RESTRICTIONS
BUT DISMISSAL IMPOSSIBLE
.BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received Dec. 20, 10.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 20. A man named Jackson, convicted of a series of charges of thefts of workmen’s tools, was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment. He requested the judge tp declare him an habitual criminal, thereby securing a longer sentence. The Crown Prosecutor stated that Jackson considered that three or four years spent in gaol would remove him from temptation and give him an opportunity to reform, and enable him to start life again with the money, which was estimated at £3OO, earned during imprisonment.
The judge, remarking on the largeness of the sum, said that w'hen the amount' became generally known we would be having an increase in these applications.
He granted Jackson’s request, and sentenced him to three vears’ imprisonment.
