OBITUARY.
• f CONTROLLER OF PRISONS. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) PALMERSTON N., Dec. 19. Mr Matthews, Controller-General of Prisons, who arrived last night from 1 ' Wanganui on a visit of inspection of the local courthouse, was found dead in bed at an hotel this morning. He apparently passed away in his sleep. There will not be an inquest.
