ARRESTED AFTER. HONEYMOON. FORGED CHEQUE FOR £450. COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, Dec. 18. To be arrested on his return from bis honeymoon for having forged and uttered a cheque for £4su was the experience of Harold Keilth Jones, a young clerk employed at the Bank of New Zealand, Auckland. It was shown in evidence that the accused forged the signature of a depositor to a cheque for £450, and on November 19 paid it into an account which he opened at the Auckland Savings Banlq giving the name of Martin. Subsequently the cheque was sent to the Bank of New Zealand in the usual way, being duly honoured. Two days later £430 was withdrawn. . Jones, who is 23, obtained leave on November 21 in order to get married, and returned to duty on December ' 16. He joined-the hank in 1918 and was transferred from AVairoa (Hawke’s Bay) to Auckland in December last. .He was receiving £225 per annum. In a statement made to Senior Detective ‘Hammond, who arrested him on Tuesday, accused admitted having forged the signature and having paid the monev into an account which he . oneued .a.t the Auckland Savings Ban!'. When arrested a. hank draft for £2OO was found on accused. He "leaded guilt'* ami was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
