TARIFFS AND PREFERENCE.
. GOVERNMENT’S PLAN. SATISFACTORY TO DOMINIONS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. LONDON, Dec. 16. There- is widespread expectancy regarding to-day’s debate in the House of Commons on tariffs and preference, which is to be initiated by a Liberal amendment to the Address-in-Reply. The Daily Telegraph ’s correspondent says there is reason to believe that Cabinet will enunciate a new plan which, while satisfactory to the Dominions, will enable the Government to fulfil its election pledges not to increase the cost of food. t ft * s understood bounties and subsidies have been ruled out, but the precise method will not be disclosed until the Premier (Mr Stanley Baldwin) speaks. All that can he said is that Ministerial circles are confident that supporters of Imperial preference will regard the scheme as sound and effective and that it will please the Dominions.
