STRATFORD CLUB.. GENERAL COMMITTEE MEET. A meeting of the General Committee was held on Tuesday, 9th hist., there being present : Messrs S. Pitt-(chair-man), H. E. Abraham, J. Eredric, A Stewart, V. Smith, ]>. J. Malone W P. Kirkwood, F. AVhittle, and A.’ AV Budge. Mr Kirkwood stated that the .Vigilance Committee had no- further report to make at - this stage, but were keeping closely in touch with matters. The chairman reported that the painters were making good progress and completion of contracts is practically assured by the 15th inst. A tender has been accepted tor the painting of the stewards’ stand. The committee expressed tlie opinion that if this work was completed on or before the 24th inst. it would be quite satisfactory, the club’s architect was requested to expedite signing of the contract. Mr T. D. Sullivan, supervisor, reported that contract re metalling of taxi track and Tybalt Street had l>ee/ completed to his entire satisfaction. Tinal payment in connection with this Work was authorised. 'Mr. Eredric repra ted that the location 1 of turnstiles and work in connection 1 with entrance was practically completed ; he . considers the .arrangements very satisfactory. More commodious cash drawers are required. It was revolved that the matter of making arrangements in this connection be left in the hands of Air. Eredric. Air. Kirkwood renorted that the Borough Council will' meet the Club’s requirements in connection with Cordelia Street and that certain improvements will be effected in Pembroke Road. Air. Kirkwood stated that he will keep in touch with this matter. The chairman reported re conference between Sergeant of Police, - representative of the Borough Council aiul a representative of this club re control ol traffic on race days. The Borough Council in con junction with the police will control the traffic. The chairman stated that arrangements in ibis connection with the handling of traffic are very satisfactory and well in hand. The matter oi train arrangements has been finalised to the entire satisfaction r,t the club. Provision has been made te.r special trains both days to run from Waverlcy, Taliora and Now Plymouth. It was resolved ibat the sub-enm-mitlee report; at next meeting re temporary ambulance and casualty ward equipment. The chairman reported that

sundry improvements as per recommendation of special meeting held in September last, with the exception of fencing, have been. completed. iii regard to ' course' improvements the chairman reported that the subcommittee had interviewed Air. L. C. Sladdeii; engineer, who has undertaken to' draw up' plans and specifications -forth witlu Plans etc-., will .be submitted to the sub-comittee at- an earlv date.

It Was resolved that a circular letter from the New Zealand Racing Conference re division- of races -be referred to the stewards with the suggestion that a sub-committee be set up to take action on race days if -necessary. The secretary reported that the total number of nominations received was 362. Ihe committee expressed satisfaction with the results' achieved. It was resolved that a. meeting of stewards be held on Friday, 19th December, at 8 p.m.

Air. Kirkwood stated that the Stratford Picture Company was prepared to take a motion picture of the finish of the Cup Race, stewards committee, and genera] close up snaps of lawn patrons.; It was lesolved that the offer tendered bv Air. Kirkwood be accepted with thanks, and that arrangements in connection there with he left in the hands of Air. Kirkwood with, power to act.; The committee expressed their pleasure with, the suggestion and it- is confidently -anticipated that the matter of taking a motion picture will not only be of interest hut- greatly appreciated by the patrons. It was resolved that- a letter of condolence l>e forwarded to the relatives of Messrs AlcFlynn and Reid, two prominent jockeys who recently lost their lives as the result of accident-.
