HAWERA HOSPITAL BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. ROUTINE BUSINESS. Th© monthly meeting of the Havvera Hospital Board was held yesterday, there being present: Messrs E. Gillanders (chair), G. W. Tayler, J. J. Meldon,- A. E. Wills, A. Campbell, J. S. McKay, E. A. Washer, and E. J. Gifford. ! Confirmation of tire acceptance of the resignation of Miss I. K. Rigg as typist in the Board’s office was given. The Department of Health advised that the number of vacant beds at the sanatoria on November 30 was as follows : —Pukeora 43, Otaki 0. The Board unanimously decided to join the Hospital Boards’ Association. Mr T. P. Hughson, chairman of the West Coast Settlement Reserves Committee, wrote enclosing a cheque for £l6 13s Bd, being a donation voted by the committee, to. the Hospital Board. Mr Hughson stated in his letter that the objects for which the committee ; had been brought into being had now been successfully accomplished, and the committee had now been disbanded and the funds disbursed. The . secretary stated that the donation would bear a subsidv of 20s in the £l. .... It was decided to write to! the committee thanking them for their generosity. The Department of Health advised that the authorities of the _ Otago University had decided to institute a diploma of nursing and a post-graduate course for nurses at the Otago University. ■ “ In connection . with the raising of loans by hospital boards, the Department of Health advised that in the opinion of the Audit Office the approval of the Minister of Health was final, and .there was no necessity for further endorsement. OFFICERS’ 'REPORTS. The medical superintendent, Dr. W. M. Thomson, reported that on October 31 there were 45 patients remaining in hospital. During November 50 were admitted, 54 were discharged, 2 died and 1. 39 remained on November 30. The daily average of occupied beds during November was 41.3, and the total number of patients days 124.9 During the moiith 22 operations had been, performed. 24 X-tay and 22 massage cases dealt with. - . The ni at rbn (Nurse R. Lockhead), in her monthly report, stated that, senior 1 nurses who had passed the preparatory hospital examination were Nurses Faragher. O’Dowd, Murphy, and Lawrie. Junior nurses who , had passed in physiology and anatomy were nurses Adlam, Kime, McCarthy, Washer and Hcddinoit. Nurses O’Dowd and _ Murphy having completed their training, had-sent in their resignations to the Board. The matron of the Old People’s Home (Mrs M. Laing) reported that at present there were seven inmates ,in the institution, aIL of whom were well. The farm manager, Mr H. J. Webber, reported that' during November 473 gallons of milk and 88 pints of cream had been supplied to the HospiItal Board’s institutions. The manager (also stated in .his report that he had made, five entries in the pig section at the recent Egmant A. aud. P. Show. He had secured , first and champion with a boar and first with a porker. The boar also went to Stratford, Where he secured second and reserve champion. The reports were all adopted.
